Dryer repair
Rarely an emergency
A dryer that turns but does not heat, takes several cycles, or smells hot usually has an airflow problem before it has a broken part. Lint in the vent is the leading factor in dryer fires, so a burning smell means stop and unplug.

Dryer leaking waterUsually urgent, not an emergency
Is it an emergency? Usually urgent, not an emergency. Unplug it or switch off its breaker, turn off the water to it if it has a water line, then soak up standing water. If water is reaching outlets or cords, switch off the breaker before touching anything; water coming through a ceiling is an emergency.

Dryer making a loud noiseUsually not an emergency
Is it an emergency? Usually not an emergency. A new grinding, rattling or humming most often comes from a fan, motor, belt or loose panel.
